Heat Waves

Last weekend, the temperature hit 92°F in Casper, and I realized my home wasn’t ready for a heat wave. I set up a portable fan with a bucket of ice in front of it for a DIY air conditioner, stocked extra water jugs, and rigged a shade tarp over my patio. I also put up some reflective foil on the windows to block the sun. These steps kept us cool and safe, showing how a little planning can make all the difference.

Lessons Learned:

•  Create a DIY air conditioner by placing a bucket of ice or frozen water bottles in front of a fan to cool the air.

•  Use reflective window coverings like foil or specialized film to block out the sun’s heat.

•  Rig a shade tarp or canopy over outdoor areas to create cool zones.
