Map Your Neighborhood Program in Natrona County
The Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) program, facilitated by Wyoming Patriots in Natrona County, empowers residents to prepare for emergencies by fostering community collaboration and self-reliance. Designed for neighborhoods in Casper and surrounding areas, MYN equips participants to identify local hazards, map critical resources, and create actionable plans for disasters like wildfires, winter storms, or power outages—key risks in Wyoming’s high plains.
What is Map Your Neighborhood?
MYN brings neighbors together (typically 8-12 households) to:
-
Map Your Block: Create simple maps marking assets (e.g., water sources, generators), vulnerabilities (e.g., flood-prone areas, elderly residents), and evacuation routes.
-
Build Skills: Learn practical skills like utility shutoffs, and communication without power.
-
Strengthen Bonds: Form resilient networks for mutual support during crises.
How It Works
-
Sessions: Neighborhood facilitators are trained in community-based meetings (1-2 hours each) held in homes, churches, or community centers, led by Wyoming Patriots facilitators. Neighborhood facilitators then lead the 1-2 hour disaster preparation meeting within their own neighborhoods.
-
Activities: Hands-on mapping with free tools (e.g., printed maps, Google Earth), planning workshops, and optional follow-up drills. Information is only shared with neighbors that show up to the disaster preparation meeting.
-
Local Focus: Tailored to Natrona County’s unique risks, including wind-driven fires and oil industry hazards, with input from local experts like Natrona County Emergency Management.
-
Cost: Free or low-cost, open to all residents.
